The manuscript, written by Molony, deals with the medical history of Los Angeles, California including details about USC's College of Medicine, various hospitals in the area, and prominent physicians including Walter Jarivs Barlow and Joseph Pomeroy Widney. For the manuscript, Dr. Molony conducted interview with Dr. Edgar F. Mauer and Dr. E. Richmond Ware. The two volumes contain three typed drafts of the manuscript (two with handwritten edits) and typescripts of the interviews Molony conducted with Mauer and Ware. Also included are five magnetic tape reels of reminiscences by William R. Molony and interviews with various other people.

William Richard Molony was born in Los Angeles in 1879. He attended Los Angeles High School and graduated from USC's College of Medicine in 1901. He served as resident physcian at the Idyllwild Sanitarium in 1901, and in 1902 became the resident physician at the California Hospital in Los Angeles.
